This is a new Tasmanian strain that was sent to us by our dear customer and late friend, Joshua Stockman, a US military veteran from Illinois...
Just days before he passed, Josh mailed me a box containing his entire collection of poppy seeds that he had amassed over the years and these Tasmanian seeds were in there. I don't know the origin of them, they were just labelled "Tasmanian".
We normally only grow Izmir poppies, as we just think their genetics are the best in the world, it's tough to give up precious space to grow anything else...
This year, I decided to try something from Josh's collection and went with these.
I'm pleased to say that they did not disappoint. So much so that I decided to make these seeds available for purchase. The quality is on par with Izmir genetics and I will definitely be growing them again.
This Tasmanian is very robust. The seeds germinated quickly, the plants grew fast, reaching 3-4 feet in height and averaged 2-3 large flowers per plant. They flowered in around 7 weeks. The flowers are the typical Tasmanian colour of white with small, purple basal blotches.
The yield is high with these. The seed pods are oblong-shaped, swell up quite large and are very dense and thick, similar to an Afghan.
*Due to the heatwave we had this year, we unfortunately weren't able to get a variety of good pictures as the sun scorched the petals of the few plants we had before I was able to get to them for a photoshoot. Will add more when we grow them again.
***INTERNATIONAL BUYERS*** We ship worldwide with a nearly 100% success rate, however, poppy seeds are not legal to import to all countries. Please check with your local customs agency regarding laws if you are unsure.
Furthermore, in Canada, our postal service does not provide international tracking services like most other developed countries. To send a tracked package outside of Canada we must ship with a third party carrier such as FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. and it is very expensive. It is generally between $75-$90 CAD for a single envelope and increases the risk of having the order seized by customs, as the mail must be registered. Within Canada, the cost to ship with tracking is approximately $15 and must be paid for by the customer. In our opinion, standard Lettermail is the safest, most economical option for everyone.
***US RESIDENTS: There is a service provided by USPS called "Informed Delivery" that, if you sign up (it's free), they will email you greyscale images of your incoming lettermail a few days in advance. This can help you sort of track the whereabouts of your order and give you an idea of when it will arrive.
